“And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
(Matt. 20:27-28) When Jesus came into the world, He came not only teaching the truth, but also in serving and in meeting the physical needs of man. When we get to the place that we cease to follow the example of Jesus, the church has lost its purpose in the world. (1 Peter 2:21-25)
Many opportunities are ever before us to render service, even in our affluent society, and perhaps the greatest opportunities can be found with our aging people. Eighty-year-olds and above are in the fastest growing group among us, and it is still as the Psalmist said, “The days of our years are threescore years and ten, and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10) Opportunities are provided for us to go to Whisperwood on Sunday afternoons and worship with those who gather there, or it may be to the hospitals or other nursing homes or to visit one who is unable to leave his or her home. Or a card or note sent will lift up a spirit, and bring joy to a heart that cannot get out and do what they once did. Remember to keep on doing every good work that you are able to do. We are urged to do for others as we would want them to do for us, and who knows when we may be in the needful position. There are so many opportunities for us to do good and render service unto others as we follow the examples that Jesus gave us. God will bless us in it. Matt. 10:42 tells us “Whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.”
Love you, David V. Fultz
