In Psalms 117, David declared, "O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise Him all ye people.
For His merciful kindness is great toward us; and the truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord." Truly God is to be praised by all of us today. When we let "the peace of Christ rule in our hearts," and "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God" (Col. 3:16), or as is stated in Eph. 5:19-20, "...singing and making melody with your heart unto the Lord; giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ." Note our praise to God is to come from the heart and is never, in the New Testament, spoken of as being made nor accompanied by an instrument. Nor is there an example of a musical instrument being used, or even a "necessary inference." As Jesus said, "God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and
truth" (Jn. 4:24). We should remember that worship and praise acceptable to God is done in accordance with His will. Consider Nadab and Abihu, priests of God, who offered sacrifices of strange fire which he had not commanded (Leviticus 10:1-7). God will not be pleased with nor accept the worship of one who eats the Lord's supper and does not properly discern the Lord's body (Cor. 11:23-29). All of our worship and praise to the Holy God of Heaven must come from our hearts.
Love you, David V. Fultz
