While it is important that we see that the gospel is preached to the whole world, (Mark 16, 15-16) it is also important that we teach the gospel of Christ to those who live in our homes.
The apostle Paul instructs us, “and ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath; but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). The best example of this is that of Noah, who though the whole world around him had turned to wickedness, taught his family, his wife, his three sons and their wives the truth, and they were all evidently busily engaged in the building of the ark (Gen. 6:3-22; 1 Pet. 3:17-22; Heb. 11:7).
Each family should plan a time in our homes that we, as a family, will have for daily Bible reading and prayer. This will do more for our spiritual strength than most anything we can do. Take time to meditate on the word, perhaps sing a few songs as my wife and I do. Remember what the Psalmist said in Psalms, that the man is blessed whose “...delight is in the law of the Lord, and in this law doth he meditate day and night” (Psa. 1:2). As Noah obeyed the word of God, he set the example before his family and led them in the right way. He always did what God told him to do (Gen. 6:22). His sons would have been 100 years old when they went into the ark with him (Gen. 5:32 and Gen. 7:6-7). One of the greatest blessings we can give our children is to rear them in a home where God is exalted and worldly things are crowded out. As it was with Noah, “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God”
(Gen. 6:8).
