The beginning of a new year is always a time to think in terms of beginning some new things and leaving off some old things in our lives that burden us.
One of the greatest beginnings of all is when we begin the Christian life. It is the start of a completely new life and not continuing in the old life that we have lived, as some would have us to believe.
During the past few weeks I have received letters from two who wrote thanking me for baptizing them. One was from Loy Mitchell whom I taught about Jesus, and baptized more than 60 years ago. He has gone on to be a great gospel preacher is this country and a missionary in Africa, baptizing probably thousands. He presently is teaching at Freed-Hardeman University and holding many gospel meetings, as well as returning to Africa for several weeks each year. The other was from my cousin Johnny Fultz, who was baptized more than 50 years ago and has served as an elder and leader in the Lord’s church in Kansas where he grew up. Each thanked me and said that the day he was baptized was the greatest day in his life.
When we begin the Christian life, it is a changed life that keeps on growing in the likeness of Jesus Christ, who was and is the greatest of all. As Jesus said of John the baptist, “Verily, I say unto you, among men that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the baptist; notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he” (Matt. 11:11). It is a complete, changed new life that is a light unto the world that causes men to glorify God (Matt. 5:13-16). May He receive all the praise and glory! Your soul given to Christ today, may be the means of leading others to Him.
Love you, David Fultz
