We all enjoy Thanksgiving day where we can get together
with family, friends or other loved ones and enjoy the fellowship and a
good meal together. But really, is that what it is all about, or should
it be?
So often we forget where all our blessings and our
very lives come from. It is God who has created us. He gives us
everything that we have for our use and enjoyment while we are here on
this earth. When we leave this world, we will leave it all behind us.
We can use it to His glory and honor, or we can use it for the
destruction of our souls.
Are we thankful to God, our Heavenly
Father for that which we have received? On one occasion, Jesus entered
into a village where there were ten lepers who cried out to him,
“Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Jesus told them to go and show
themselves to the priests. This was in accordance with the Law of Moses
for one whose disease was cured. As the lepers went, they were
cleansed! But only one of them returned to give thanks to Him. Jesus
asked, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?” Read the
complete story in Luke 17:11-19.
Yes, God expects gratitude. There is no
doubt that thanksgiving and gratitude should be the most
important part of our prayers, rather than a constant asking for more,
so that we can consume it upon our own lusts, using it for our selfish
pleasure (James 4:1-3). God answers the prayers of the righteous (James
5:16-18). We should be...”giving thanks always for all things with God
and the Father in the name of Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 5:20).
Love you, David Fultz
