Joy
We are all seeking joy, but many miss the mark in finding it.
When Jesus came into the world He came to bring ‘Joy to
the World’. It was that day spoken of by the Psalmist, “This
is the day the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in
it” (Psalms 118:24).
Christ came to take away sin that had
crowded God out of our lives. We can come to know the joy
of God’s presence through the death of Jesus Christ upon
the cross. As Jesus said, “These things have I spoken unto
you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might
be full. This is my commandment, that ye love one another,
as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that
a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if
ye do whatsoever I command you” (John 15:11-14). When
one is baptized into Christ, he puts on Christ and begins a
new life in Him (Rom. 6:3-4). There is no greater joy known
to man than that which comes to us when we have believed
that Jesus is the Christ, repented of our sins, confessed Him
as the Son of God, and are baptized into Him for the forgiveness
of our sins. Consider the eunuch of Ethiopia in Acts
8:20-40. He had a joy that no doubt remained with him as he
went on his way rejoicing in the Lord. We can too, as long as
we do as the Psalmist who said, “Oh, how I love thy law! It is
my meditation all the day....I have refrained my feet from
every evil way, that I might keep thy word....How sweet are
thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my
mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding; therefore
I hate every false way” (Psalms 119:97-104).
