300 Million Americans
First, some secular facts about them:
300 million people! The population of the United States has just reached this momentous mark. We are the third largest country in the world with only China and India being larger than us. According to the U. S. Census Bureau, the U.S. hit 100 million in 1915 and then 200 million in 1967. They estimated that we hit 300 million on October 17, 2006! 400 million is projected by 2043.
According to the U. S. Census Bureau, notice what happens every few seconds in the United States. One birth occurs every 7 seconds. One death occurs every 13 seconds. One international migrant becomes a citizen (net) every 31 seconds. Therefore, there is a net gain of one person every 11 seconds. Since there are 86,400 seconds in each day, that means we add about an additional 7,855 people to our country every day!
Second, some sacred faith about them:
God loves all of them. "For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16) He also wants all of them to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. "who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:4)
Third, some saintly feelings for them:
Jesus said we should lift up our eyes and see that multitudes of people are like fields that "are white for harvest." (John 4:35) On one occasion, we are told how the Lord felt about people. "And seeing the multitudes, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd." (Matthew 9:36) Like Jesus, Paul had feelings of "great sorrow and unceasing grief" for those who are without Christ. (Romans 9:2) His advice was to pray "that God may open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ." (Colossians 4:3) He also advised us to let "outsiders" (those not "in Christ") see the wisdom of God in our conduct and the grace of God in our speech. (Colossians 4:5-6) His goal was to let "each person" hear of God's grace. That certainly includes all 300 million Americans!
