PRAISING GOD
When David said, “I was glad when they said unto me, let us
go into the house of the Lord,” in Psalms 122:1, he was
speaking of the times when the people of Israel came together
to praise God as verse 4 goes on to tell us. Is that our
attitude when it comes time for us to assemble together to
praise God, Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday
evening.
Are we glad that there is a time set by our elders to
meet together to give praise and thanks unto God for all His
blessings? Are you glad that we can come together to pray
for the peace and prosperity of our brethren, and of our nation,
and the world; and to seek the good that only God can
bestow? Yes, we can do these things in the privacy of our
homes, and should, but He also wants us to assemble together
for this purpose. In Heb. 10:24-25, God says, “..let us
consider one another to provoke unto love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the
manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much
the more as ye see the day approaching.” Of what day this is
referring to, we are not certain, but we have example that the
early Christians met together to partake of the Lord’s supper
on the first day of the week (Act. 20:7); and we are told of the
attitude of heart that the partakers must have (1 Cor. 11:18-
29). We also sing praises to God, (Eph. 5:19-20), “Speaking
to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
and making melody in your hearts to the Lord; giving thanks
always for all things unto God and the Father in the Name of
our Lord Jesus Christ.” What a great privilege it is to praise
God!
Love you, David V. Fultz
