THE TRUTH THAT MAKES ONE FREE
“..Jesus said to those Jews which believed on Him, ‘If
ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free’ “ (John 8:31-32).
Jesus is speaking of
that truth that was inspired by the Holy Spirit through
the prophets in 1 Pet. 1:10-20, “Of which salvation, the
prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who
prophesied of the grace that should come unto you;
searching what, or what manner of time, the spirit of
Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified
beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that
should follow; unto whom it was revealed, that not unto
themselves, but unto us they did minister these things
which are now reported unto you by those who have
preached the gospel unto you, with the Holy Ghost, sent
down from heaven; which things the angels desire to
look into.” See also 2 Pet. 1:21 and 2 Tim. 3:16-17. In
Eph. 3:5 Paul tells us of the “...mystery of Christ, which
in other generations was not made known unto the sons
of men, as it has now been revealed unto His holy
apostles and prophets in the Spirit.” This truth is so important
that it can come only by revelation of God
(Jer.10:23), and Jesus would not trust the fallible memories
of His closest apostles, but sent the Holy spirit to
guide them and bring back to their memories all that He
had taught them (John 14:26; 16:13-14). Christ then
places the great responsibility of preaching or teaching
that truth upon His disciples (Matt. 28;18-20; Mark
16:15,16; Luke 24:46,47) and has charged men in all
ages to proclaim that truth with power (Rom. 1:16; 1
Cor. 1:21; 2 Tim. 4:1-4) and the gravest anathema of
God is upon anyone who would change one iota of the
truth presented (Gal. 1:6-9). Each generation has been
given the responsibility of seeing that it is taught to every
person living in that generation.
