GOD LOVETH A CHEERFUL GIVER
God Himself is the greatest giver of all. He gave unto
us life, breath and all things, temporal and spiritual.
Read again the first three chapters of Genesis.
In return He expects us to be great givers if we truly
want to live happy lives. Consider what He says, “Lay
not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth
and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through
and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven,...for where your treasure is, there will your heart
be also (Matt. 6:19-20), and “seek ye first the kingdom
of God and His righteousness and all these things shall
be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33). God does not want us
to give “grudgingly nor of necessity, but cheerfully” (2
Cor. 9:7), and “liberally” (Rom. 12:8 ASV). When we do
so, as God said, speaking through the prophet David,
“...I have been young, and now I am old; yet have I not
seen the righteous forsaken nor their seed begging
bread” Psalms 37:25.
Only one man have I ever had to tell to quit giving all his
money away and take care of his own family first. He
thought he was doing good but understood better when
shown the scripture, “if any provide not for his own, and
especially for those of his own house, he hath denied
the faith, and is worse than an infidel” (1 Tim. 5:9). God
will take care of us, but He expects us to use what
He gives us wisely and for the purpose given, and to
always trust Him and not riches.
Love you, David V. Fultz
