BEGINNING ANEW
Isn’t it wonderful that we have the privilege of beginning anew?
We have the opportunity of beginning a new life when we
become a Christian. It is a completely new life; old things are
passed away when we are born again. “Except a man be
born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3);
and John 3:5 goes on to say “...Except a man be born of
water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
This new birth is the most wonderful thing that can happen
to a person . It changes him from a sinful being to one saved
in the sight of God.
We are told a few verses later, “For God SO loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth
on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Yet, even
Simon the sorcerer, who had wanted to buy the gift of God
with money could begin anew by repenting and praying to
God that even the thought of his heart might be forgiven
(Acts 8:19-24). We are also assured of this in 1 John 1;7-10.
We can begin anew by repenting and praying to God for
forgiveness.
Many use the New Year as an opportunity of beginning anew.
It is an excellent time to start over by reading the Bible every
day if you haven’t been, or attending all the services of the
church. You can never know what a difference it will make in
your life. Or in spending time each day on the meditation
(really thinking about) the word of God, as the Psalmist said
about the “blessed” man in Psalms 1. This short psalm has
only six verses. Commit them to memory and your life will be
made better.
And don’t forget to pray! Prayer will help you to walk on higher
ground and it will draw you closer to God with Whom you
want to spend eternity.
May we all take this opportunity to start over and make our
lives more pleasing to Christ this year!
Love you, David
