IN JESUS’ NAME
In John 14:13,14, Jesus told His disciples, “...whatsoever
ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the
Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything
in my name, that will I do.”
Jesus had at this time
been with His disciples a little over three years and knew
it was time that He should reveal unto them who He
was, why He had come into the world, and that He was
soon to return to His Father in heaven. He wanted to
make sure they understood that they would also be with
Him and God if they were faithful. In John 14:23, Jesus
said, “If a man love me, he will keep my word; and my
Father will love him, and we will come unto him and
make our abode with him.” What an awesome thing it
is, to know that we will have both God and Christ to
come and dwell with us as long as we keep His word,
but if we are not faithful, He will not be with us (John
14:23, 24). Verse 25 and 26 goes on to assure us that
the Holy Spirit will be with us also, helping us to remember
the scriptures that we have studied given by His
disciples. Jesus wants us to know that He and the Father
are one, and the only way to God the Father is
through Christ (John 14:9-11). Today our only avenue
to God the Father is through Jesus Christ His Son, as
he tells us in John 14:6, “I Am the way, the truth and the
life; no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.” That is
why we pray through Christ, or “in His name”, because
He is our only access to God.
