JESUS IS DIVINE
Isaiah, who prophesied about 700 B. C., said, “Therefore the
Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive,
and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel
(meaning “God is with us”). (Isa 7:14)
We are familiar with
the story of the birth and early life of Jesus Christ as revealed
in Matthew, chapter 2:1-23; Luke 1:26; and Luke 2:1-
52. All of these scriptures attest to the fact that Jesus is divine
as well as that He lived as a human being while here on
the earth. He suffered physical pain as we do (1 Peter 2:21-
24). He was tempted as we are tempted (Matt. 4:1-11; Heb.
24:15). But He never lost His contact with God, except perhaps
when He gave His life for us and cried out “My God, my
God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matt. 27:46) It was soon
after that He cried out with a loud voice, “Father, into thy
hands I commend my spirit.” And having said this He yielded
up the spirit (Luke 23:46). He was placed in the tomb where
He remained for three days and nights. As it began to dawn
toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the
other Mary came to see the sepulchre and ... “An angel of
the Lord descended from heaven, came and rolled away the
stone and sat upon it” (Matt. 28:2). But Jesus had already
risen as the angel told them, and they were told to come and
see where the Lord lay (Matt. 28:6). The ultimate proof of His
being divine was that He showed Himself many times to His
disciples during the forty days until He ascended to God in
heaven. We are all now awaiting His return for us (Acts 1:3-
11; 1 Thess. 4:13-18)) But if we are not ready to receive Him,
our suffering will be through all eternity (John 5:28-29). Which
do you choose?
Love you, David V. Fultz
