THE HOME

It was in the beautiful Garden of Eden that the home for man was established, when God formed Adam from the dust of the ground and gave him to dress and keep the garden. But God knew that it was not good for man to be alone, so he formed a woman and gave her unto him for his wife, that she might be a help meet, or suitable for him (Gen. 2:1-25).

Then Adam declared, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman because she was taken out of man.” Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh (Gen. 2:23-24). They lived in Eden and were happy as God came and walked and talked with them. But when they succumbed to the serpent’s temptation and both ate of the forbidden fruit, they were driven from the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:1-24). God’s plan for the home has lasted through the ages. When Jesus was asked about the home in Matt. 19:1-12, He spoke of it as it was from the beginning and as He wills for it to be today. The husband and wife should remain together for as long as they both shall live (Rom. 7:13), and rear their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:1-4). The Home is the place where God is honored, Christ is believed and comes first in our lives, love is always manifest, and a stranger is welcome (Matt. 25:34- 40); where a man loves his wife as himself, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for it, and the wife has respect for her husband; and the children honor and obey their parents (Eph. 5:28-33 and 6:1-4). This is the ideal home set forth in the Bible and every nation and people who have followed this ideal plan given by God have been blessed.
