TRAIN UP A CHILD
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and even
when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Prov. 22:6)
What a wonderful opportunity we have to train our little
ones when they are small, and through their teen years.
Parents are not given the opportunity only, but also the
responsibility to do so. Under the Law of Moses it is
stated, “Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord;
and thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these
words that I command thee this day, shall be in thine
heart, and thou shall teach them diligently unto thy children,
and shall talk of them when thou sittest in thine
house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when
thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” (Deut. 6: 4-
7).
Also in the new Testament come these words, “Children,
obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Honor thy father and thy mother (which is the first commandment
with promise) that it may be well with thee,
and that thou mayest live long on the earth. And ye fathers,
provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them
them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” (Eph.
6:1-4)
We can teach them with love at home to do what is
right. And we need to be bringing them to Bible study
and worship, rather than sending them. While in the
church we can help to train the children, it is in the home
and the example that we set before them that gives the
most lasting benefit. This is not only proved by the word
of God, but by our own experiences. They will learn to
be the kind of people that we train them to be.
Love you, David
